Police "shocked" by scale of abuse at Co. Durham detention centre
Detectives investigating allegations of sexual abuse at a
detention centre for young offenders in County Durham have reportedly
identified more than 500 potential victims.
A new investigation into allegations from the 1970s and 80s was
launched last year into Medomsley Detention Centre, near Consett.
The detective leading the investigation reportedly told the Guardian newspaper that the "sheer number of victims who have come forward" was "a shock".
